Spotlight on GCD Studios' Blog this week

GCD Studios posted these 2 layouts that I submitted for
last year's DT call.
This one is still a major fave layout for me .;)

The Scrappiest layout sketch 58

Here's my layout for the latest Scrappiest sketch this week .
This is Tania's  beautiful DD ( in South Africa  )
& Tania has such a great story about her DD's dress here that was made for a steal !
R200 or abt USD 27 !!!
I'm not sure that we would buy the material for that much here !

These Prima Watercolor pps were just right to go with these lovely pics .
Put a bit of border punches to work too here.

This dress can be worn even when reversed ! too cool !

& everything else I used, except for the Distress Ink & Shimmerz Blingz, is Prima . ;)

scrappy loot for the week !

( you can click for a larger view)

Thought I'd post something different for a change here.
How about what a little scrappy loot looks .
We had an overwhelming choice of new arrivals
on our sunny shores this week .
& I brought these home .

Always nice to try out a new brand !
Check out the entire line here
No embellishments arrived with the papers
so damage was limited to just papers ! phew !
My fave cardstock brand, Core'dinations , has printed patterned papers on their unique cardstock now -
& two collections were here -
CORE AMOUR (SABLE) COLLECTION PAPERS &

 CORE AMOUR (ONYX) COLLECTION PAPERS

& I bought just one token piece of Hambly doily transparency ! ;)

Here's a sneaky peekie of next week's Scrappiest's sketch 58 layout
featuring Prima ! I tried out a little of the new Victorian Velvet distress ink here.
Soft & pretty for sure !

& check out this glimmer misting on a wooden album cover
that I was busy with earlier this week .
(will post when I have more time )
I used new Heidi Swapp Viva Pink & Electric Blue
& an older GM Lemon Meringue .
Love how the colors blended where they met .
This was inspired by Heidi Swapp's class here.

my first 12x12 canvas page

With special thanks to Tania for letting me scrap this beautiful pic of her & her DD !
I've had this 12x12 canvas screenprint for a while & didn't quite know what I wanted to do with it !

& then I saw how Donna Downey created a coupla scrap pages with 'em recently
& decided to try a little Donna Downey style on this one .

I misted on the background closer to the edges with my own blue mist .
& used GM Lemon Meringue in the center.
I painted some of the Prima florals with Shimmerz Blingz to add more color &
that special shimmerz to them.
The quote is also taken from one of Donna's art pages perhaps .

Gotta love the Shimmerz Blingz  here - it's so different from using say Stickles -
you get to control the color as much as you want & the overall effect can be so elegant .

The Scrappiest layout sketch 57

check out the latest sketch over at the Scrappiest this week
& all the fabulous DT inspiration !

For this layout , I have used Jillibean Soup's Old World Cabbage Stew on White pps
with a little Chicken Noodle pp .
( that's quite a mouthful for the name of their collections ! ;)
The base is another white Bazzill spot laminated cardstock
which I have misted on in various colors & parts
but as I didn't wipe away any of the mist the laminated design
on the cardstock
did not show up well .

I have since learnt that lesson & now prefer to use a little kitchen towel
to wipe away excess mist on this type of cardstock.
Sometimes you get to blend the colors too that way.

I also used my fave Shimmerz Pixie Dust on the corrugated alphas
& on some of the CC chipboard flowers .

Upload your take on the sketch to Mr. Linky  here before the month is over and you could be one of two lucky winners to win $20.00 in Stash Cash at Your Scrapbook Stash.

DT reveals - Chelley Bean Designs & Such Sweet Tierney

Check out the very first Creative Team reveal
over at Chelley Bean Designs this March .

The turqouise & pink felt birdies here are by Chelle & how cute are they ?
I felt they were just the perfect touch to ground my design here
given that the much of the layout is  relatively busy.

I also used a new cake doily pattern as a mask
 & a brayer a la Heidi Swapp's technique
& discovered that brayering over misting on cardstock
can come out a little muddied too.
So it may not work if you are looking for
a much more refined finish with the misting & masking.

Other goodies I used : GCD Studios' Homespun Chic pps , buttons , chipboard , epoxy stickers .
Prima pearl & crsytal swirls .
-----------------------------------
it's my turn on Designer Wednesday
As we have 4 members on the DT team this year ,

was spotlighted too on Such Sweet Tierney .
Check it all out here .
 ---------------------------------------------
& on to my very first customized blog header :

 Nikky from Polka Doodles
is sponsoring us with a fabulous prize of a  "Paper
Boutique" CD. Totally amazing prize. Thank you , Nikki !

Check out all the lovely DT inspo & the sketch  here .

This week I went with an altered notebook idea ,
using the latest GCD Studio's Homespun Chic line .

Love these colors together !
When in doubt , turquoise is always good !!!

The Scrappiest layout sketch 56

***My Blog giveaway is still OPEN.... pls see previous post here ........ends March 17 ***

I dont know why it's so , but with all the lines that I love I will invariably do
a layout along the lines of chic, glamour or style .
I just can't help it especially if the pic inspires it ! ;)
Can't be a bad thing , rite ? lol.

This is Giselle  once again .
many thanks to G & Sindy for letting me scrap this one . ;)
I have used the latest
Jillibean Soup Chicken Noodle pp collection.

This is the first layout that I created that uses the Bazzill spot laminated cardstock.
I didn't wipe away the GM from the laminated circles here & it gives a muddy effect
which is ok for me with this circle design .
I'm just so happy how the colors of G's dress here are picked up
by all the vibrant colors & patterns of this line .

If you try the sketch, link it to Mr. Linky here before April 1st and
you could be one of two lucky winners to win $20.00 in "stash cash"
 over at Your Scrapbook Stash.

All you are

***My Blog giveaway is still OPEN.... pls see previous post here ........ends March 17 ***

Thank you to Lynette once again for letting me scrap this darling baby boy , D !

Using the latest Jillibean Soup Old World Cabbage Soup pps .
together with their sought after corrugated alphas ,
( which I have painted on a little Shimmerz Blingz Choc )
& a few canvas flowers .

Couldn't resist using some new Prima crochet trim in buttercup yellow .

Layout design is inspired by the Friday Sketch over at Jillibean's blog.

The title & journaling were taken from this poem

All You Are

(by Michael Card - based on a poem by George MacDonald)
Where did you get those eyes so blue?
They're from the sky that you passed through.
Where did you get that little tear?
Did you find that it was waiting for you here?
And what about your little nose?
He knew you'd need it for the rose.
And as for your soft curly ear,
He knew there would be songs for you to hear.
How can it be that you are you?
He thought you up and so you grew.
Because you're mine, it must be true
That He was also thinking of me too.
For all you are, and all you'll be,
For everything you mean to me,
Though I don't understand,
I know you're from the Father's hand.

Sweet golden inspiration !

***My Blog giveaway is still OPEN.... pls see previous post here ........ends March 17 ***

first of all , much , many thanks , deep thanks  to  dear Lynette , in South Africa,
for letting me scrap one of her precious little treasures in life here.

I always wondered how I would scrap if I had blonde kiddos.
 ( nope mine aren't blonde yet - maybe when they're adults ?! lol  & I only have 2 -
other kidlets that you oftentimes see in my layouts are my many nieces & nephews )

Would  I scrap any differently   - anyway I'll let you be the judge of this one for now !

Recently I got hold of a bunch of different Bazzill white cardstock
that has spot lamination on them - different designs .
I knew if I misted on the laminated design it  would resist the mist -
but you have to wipe the mist off the design as I discovered with this layout.
I used 3 different colors of blue on here but you're mainly seeing the Jazz Blue GM i think .

The new Webster's Pages Lullaby Lane, which has delightful images of children on some of the papers,
came to mind when I first saw Lynette's pics.
But somehow in the course of piecing this design together it just didn't occur to me to add some in .
I used some new baby blue crochet trim by American Crafts for the lower border & Prima lace for the upper one.
Also added touches of Shimmerz Blingz in turquoise on the white Prima rose & on the cardstock.

Layout design is inspired by Sketch Inspiration #114.

Overall, I was happy with how this turned out even if it was on the simple side for me. ;)

& using my Cuttlebug die cuts more too !

These 2 cards above  uses the Claire line .
I used some new Prima lace & flower centers .

Just Beee .... a little blog giveaway !

I had so much fun with this little canvas project
that celebrates are a coupla firsts for me :
made my first music paper type flowers
( using Jillibean Soup's Chicken Bouillon pp )
using a tutorial by Lotus Paperie
Now I  totally understand why making your
own handmade paper flowers is soo addictive !!!

This is also the first time I tried a Glimmer Misted background on canvas
&I  just love how unpredictable it was & the result !
I used Candy Cane Red , Yellow Meringue , Olive Gold & Tattered Leather.

All papers used here are by Jillibean Soup -
mainly from the Chicken Noodle on white collection .
A little handcut leaves , some paper twirling & curling , punched leaves .
Misted two of the "music sheet " flowers .
I also used a little bit of everything else that's JBS -
a little full stop from their corrugated alpha set for the flower center, cardstock buttons, canvas flower.

The cute bee here is from Cosmo Cricket's Garden Variety chipboard set.

& I'd like to give this away to a  randomly picked follower . ;)
Just for fun !
(I will ship anywhere in the world .)

Just become a follower using the link on the upper right here =>
& then leave a comment here that you've done that !

Here's my take
using a cuttlebug embossed card base, May Arts Ribbon , Jillibean Soup pp,
CI Old Guys Rule chipboard.

Pencillines 176

Time For a change in pace -

I tried out a Pencillines sketch 176
& used up some Jillibean Soup from last year.

Love how the white printing on kraft background resisted the GM in the places I misted.
My fave GM colors used here : Tattered Leather & Brick !
Buttons are all by Such Sweet Tierney.
