Little Shop of Sketches - sketch 53

With us this week for Sketch #53 is my very own online scrappy pal , Paula Pixie !
I've known Paula for at least 2 years now - & that to me is a mighty long time in internet terms ! ;)
Paula is also a long time master of stamping techniques-
creating beautiful collage work & backgrounds for her projects.
When I first knew her I was very resistant doing techniquey stuff -
this year I realised I have been releasing the inner artist in me more than any other time
& this layout below is a celebration of that !

This week's sketch is a simple one -
so I chose to work with a busy background paper -
an  Adornit Frenzy Bracket Paper .
Love all their Bracket papers !
I cut into the bracket shape on the right to insert my own misted background.

Love how the colors turned out .

& Talking about Adornit -
a quick shoutout to dear Jing Jing
who is guest blogging for Adornit all week  here  ! ;)

I don 't use alcohol inks for creating backgrounds -wish I did ! - I love the idea of smooshed colors !
so I made do with my existing collection of Mists
( you need at least 5-6 bottles of colors to really get down to using them I'd say )

I also brushed Tim Holtz's fave Rock Candy crackled paint
on the sides of this photo for a fun textured effect.

used the Rock Candy crackled paint again on the chipboard title .
Some Gold distressed stickles for that sandy effect.
Love this combo of misted background & dew drops too .

The Scrappiest layout sketch 35 - Whatever is holding you back. Let go of it today.

This layout was simply inspired
by a Halle Berry movie , Things we lost in the fire ,
and its website

I used similar colors as on its website   -
which the Lily Bee Audrey line came in handy for ,
and for the title : Hope comes with letting go.

A few spritzes of Glimmer Mist always helps to finish things off .

and what the rest of the fab DT team did .

Pink Ninjas Prompt #20- if you were a cartoon character ...

For reasons best known to them , my kids readily suggested Tweetie Bird to me
for this prompt ,
& so I happily went along with it !
DD even searched out the pics for me

misted in a Collage Press die cut
over the Happy Tunes Me Likey pp by Sassafras .
Keeping to the sketch I quickly got this done
& used up more of that Me Likey stash ! woohoo !:)

Little Shop of Sketches - sketch 52

The Story

I got my hair done last Fri ( long overdue ! )
& after patiently sitting down for more than 3 hours ,
I walked out of the hair salon with
some new red highlights on a purplish red base color ,
with a classic chinadoll bob .

These days I am making it a point to do self portraits
on good hair days & so, here's one result .

I also found this wonderful poem on a Female perspective of Aging
& couldn't resist using parts of it
to journal with .

A Woman of My Age

(By Theresa S)
They say...
A woman of my age should not let her hair
Fall below the marks of her shoulder.
It will bring the face down
And make her look older.

But I say...
A woman of my age
Should let her hair grow.
When it gets too long
I think she will know

A woman of my age
Is secure and finally sure of herself.
She doesn't long to be nineteen,
But neither is she ready for the shelf.

Lily Bee Audrey line for papers, die cut , rub ons , tulle flowers,
packaging for the tulle flowers
Stickles on masked swirls , misted in over a KI lace cardstock

The Scrappiest layout sketch 34

Here is this week's sketch from the Scrappiest.
and my take with some Webster's Page's Postcards from Paris.

I was so inspired by all the different layouts over at inspireME ,
using some of the vintage hot air balloons
from the Tres Magique pp.
I just had to try it out for myself too.

I love the corduroy clouds by Buzz & Bloom
and thought they would be a fun addition here
- nothing like fabric to add some rich texture & color.
Went to town with stickling & smooshing the clouds.

( Smoosh - a Clearsnap pearlized ink in a nail polish looking bottle )

We scrappers live for the tiniest details -
I just love how this Prima Rajah Center
goes with the ribbon
( click to see a larger image )

Email your LOs to thescrappiest@frontiernet.net to get a chance at winning that adorable Pink Paislee Amber Road kit from Scrapbook Circle. Please put sketch 34 in the subject line.

52sketches52weeks #41 - Her peeps

The latest sketch -#41 -is up over at 52sketches52weeks.

I was inspired by the swirl in the sketch -
it reminded me of the BG Junebug swirl cardstock sticker.
The butterfly reminded me of the MM Just Chillin' pp which I have been hoarding.
So with these 2 starting supplies in mind ,
I proceeded to choose my photo and all the other papers -
Jellibean Kraft A Hint of Gossip , Anna Griffin Darcey line pps , Bella Blvd Bits A Bella
I painted the splatters on the MM pp with Tim Holtz's Rock Candy crackled paint.
It dries up quite fast -
giving pretty good instant gratification
for impatient scrappers like me .

Love using felt as accents - I cut up some Prima felt frames here to use as borders

( click on images for a closer look )

This week a Color Me Daisy kit featuring some lovely Lily Bee French Couture pps
awaits one lucky winner.
So do join in the fun & play along !

Making Memories' Vintage Findings program has finally landed on our shores

52sketches52weeks #40 - first DT reveal

Our first DT reveal
over at 52sketches52weeks this week.
Come check out out the sketch & what the rest of the DT did here !

I discovered some new masking fun here with a BG lace doiley paper
from the Junebug line ( i believe )
As always , misting away over my newfound mask in at least 3 colors -
love pink & brown together these days !
I was also inspired by the color & curve of our eldest niece's sling bag
& put these BG swirly stickers to use here to reflect that.

Created the polaroid photos over at http://www.rollip.com/

I used papers by Sassafras Lass , BG Junebug, Anna Griffin's Darcey line .
Love this mix !

Transparent Touches & Tags has so kindly donated a GORGEOUS Pink Paislee Amber Road kit this week & who knows you just might be the lucky winner if you play along !
